With the formation of Chhattisgarh and its subsequent declaration as a Herbal State, RAHI Gramin Vikas Avam Shodh Sansthan came into existence on 1st of June 2002. The primary objective of RAHI Gramin Vikas Avam Shodh Sansthan is to promote Indian System of Medicine (Ayurveda) in grass root level. To educate people to live in tandem with their surrounding by keeping it clean and to utilize nature judiciously to get remedy for their common ailments.
(Jeevnasth Aadhar Vanoshadhi) – the tag line of RAHI states that Herbs is the Foundation of One’s Life. Its not only restricted to cure disease, its more than that, it’s a Art of Living Healthy Life. It talks about our daily routine – our eating habits, our sleeping habits, our working habits and all other aspects of our mortal and spiritual life.
Objective (of NGO):
To promote cultivation of Medicinal Plants and to provide training for its processing, for rural development.
To develop infrastructure facilities for preservation, research and development of medicinal plants, aromatic plants and flowers in collaboration with govt.
To organize Health Camps for creating health awareness and promote herbal.
To develop medical facilities and to organize health and cleanliness programs, to promote balanced diet and health education.
To work for poverty eradication; to develop youth leadership, personality and managerial skills; to establish training institute under youth education for providing computer and technical education and to provide career counseling for creating job opportunities.
To establish model herbal garden, nursery and seed gardens and to promote cultivation production and preservation of medicinal and aromatic plants.
To organize agriculture seminars, training, research work and exhibitions for modernization of Herbal Cultivation.
To conduct survey of medicinal plants, collect data and to facilitate export by conducting market survey in various countries.
To organize Naturopathy, Yoga, Panchakarm and Herbal training programme and to work for its promotion and opening centers.
To organize trade fairs and other events for promotion of Village Products (Gramodyog) and Handicrafts.
To work for preservation and re-construction of environment and to promote environment education and organize training programmes for eradication of pollution.
To promote projects of governments with the similar objectives and work in association with them.
LAUNCH OF HERBAL RATH
In its inception year 2002, RAHI Gramin Vikas Avam Shodh Sansthan successfully organized Herbal Jan Jagriti Abhiyaan Rath (Herbal Chariot for public awareness) in entire Chhattisgarh State. The objective of Herbal Chariot was to convey the message of Herbal Cultivation to farmers and to educate people regarding Home Remedies from Herbs available in their surroundings.
The 1st project undertaken by RAHI was inaugurated by the then Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh State. The project was completed across sixteen districts of Chhattisgarh covering all major towns, block headquarters and villages. Various Street Shows were organized and Educational leaflet regarding herbal farming and its commercial use was distributed during the campaign.
PUBLICATION OF HERBAL HEALTH MAGAZINE
RAHI started publication of “Herbal Health” magazine in the year 2007. It gain popularity in very short period and today it had circulation in entire India covering all Hindi speaking states. Herbal Health magazine plays a vital role in popularizing Herbal system of medicine. It works as a ready reference for natural treatment of various common ailments by its reader.
Herbal Health magazine is written in lucid language understandable to common man without any medical background. To make it more relevant, all the articles are written in summary form, making it Full House of Knowledge and Excitement. Currently NGO had stopped publication since Covid and is working to launch it in digital format
TRADITIONAL HEALERS TRAINING CAMPS
In order to provide recognition to Traditional Healers working in remote villages, various Vaidya Training Programmes had been organized by RAHI Gramin Vikas Avam Shodh Sansthan in Korba, Janjgir-Champa and Koriya district of Chhattisgarh state. The camp was organized in association with Chhattisgarh State Medicinal Plant Board and District Minor Forest Union.
Our NGO conducted survey of all three districts in block level. Our team visited interior and micro interior villages to recognize Traditional Healers active in curing people by traditional herbs for generations. With the help of village panchayat – local administration these Traditional Healers were recognized and were invited to Traditional Healers Training Camps.
More than 500 Traditional Healers participated in the training camps and shared their valuable knowledge with fellow Traditional Healers. They also shared their problems with them. RAHI Gramin Vikas Avam Shodh Sansthan helped Traditional Healers to get recognition with the Government of Chhattisgarh in order to improve their living standards.
RAHI’S ACTIVE SUPPORT IN
FORMATION OF TRADITIONAL HEALER’S ASSOCIATION
Considering the importance of unity and collaborative approach to solve common issues RAHI promoted Traditional Healers scattered across Chhattisgarh State to form association. With its active support the Traditional Healer’s Association was formed in the year 2009.
RAHI is working in collaboration with Traditional Healer’s for successful implementation of various projects for improving their standard of living. RAHI is providing assistance to them for herbal cultivation and marketing of herbs. RAHI is also involved in facilitating of testing of various unique herbal formulation developed by traditional healers for treatment of disease.
ACTIVE PARTICIPATION IN ORGANIZATION OF
AROGYA TRADE FAIR IN CHHATTISGARH
RAHI actively participated with Chhattisgarh State Medicinal Plant Board for successful organization of Arogya Fair in Raipur, capital of Chhattisgarh State in the year 2010. Four day trade fair was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of the state and various programmes were attended by the Governor, Health Minister, Forest Minister, Agriculture Minister along with experts of various field across India and foreign countries. Trade fair was a huge success with lots of people visited daily and got treatment from herbs of Chhattisgarh state.
RAHI co-ordinated with Traditional Healer Association and various stalls were organized for free treatment of several disease with expert Traditional Healer of that field. Focus of treatment was mainly on Bone Setting, Jaundice, Asthma, Sciative, Chronic Fever and Allergy. Moreover display of Raw Herbs available in Chhattisgarh state was also set up with the help of Traditional Healers.
FORMATION OF MODEL HERBAL NURSERY
IN COLLABORATION WITH SMPB
With the objective of making availability of planting material of Herbal plant easier to the farmers RAHI established Herbal Nursery in Lufa (Bilaspur district) and Bhawar (Korba district) in the year 2010. RAHI worked in collabartion with Chhattisgarh State Medicinal Plant Board and established model nursery in these districts.
In the nursery those species of herbal plants were selected which were commercially viable and can be easily grown in climatic condition of Chhattisgarh. Stevia, plant from Latin America, was also cultivated in nursery and successful germination was observed. RAHI distributed the plants developed in the nursery to Herbal Farmers of Chhattisgarh State.
Organization of farmers meet: RAHI organized farmers meet in the nursery to demonstrate herbal cultivation and promoted the farmer to adopt it as their means of livelihood. Farmers from Bilaspur, Korba and nearby districts attended the meet and learned about herbal cultivation. The meet was headed by the then CEO of Chhattisgarh State Medicinal Plant Board.
IMPLEMENTATION OF HOME HERBAL GARDEN
IN COLLABORATION WITH UNDP
Understanding the importance of involvement of common people RAHI alongwith Traditional Healers Association Chhattisgarh demanded Home Herbal Garden scheme to SMPB. Further UNDP provided financial assistance to the scheme for its successful implementation.
RAHI implemented Home Herbal Garden scheme in entire Bilaspur district of Chhattisgarh state in the year 2012. Under this scheme herbs with high medicinal value and that can be easily grown in home was selected for free distribution. Various seminars were organized in school, colleges, training institutes, clubs, courts and other public gathering to educate people about the use of medicinal plants as a remedy for their common ailments.
Plants distributed under this scheme were – Stevia rebudiana (Stevia), Aloe vera (Ghritkumari), Asparagus racemosus (Shatavari), Centella asiatica (Mandukparni), Tinospora cordifolia (Giloya), Adhatoda vasica (Adusa), Andrographis paniculata (Kalmegh), Aegle marmelos (Bel), Withania somnifera (Ashwagandha) and others.
Nearly 60 thousand plants were distributed to 12,000 households in Bilaspur in the year 2012. In the year 2014 1 lac plants will be distributed to 20,000 household in Bilaspur district with major concentration in nearby village areas and Marwahi forest division.
IGNOU MSC WORKSHOP
IN COLLABORATION WITH FRLHT, BANGALORE
With the objective to provide recognition of knowledge of traditional healers RAHI worked with FRLHT and IGNOU to organized MSC (Minimum Standard of Competency) Workshop in Korba district in Chhattisgarh state in the year 2012-13.
ORGANIZATION OF HEALTH CAMPS
With an objective of creating awareness about the preventive, promotive and curative aspects of Herbal Plants, various free Health Check Up camps are regularly organized in villages, in block level. Villagers, in large numbers, took advantage of these free Health Check Up camps. In collaboration with Herbal Manufacturers of Chhattisgarh, Herbal Medicines, based on herbs grown in Chhattisgarh state, were provided to the patients in discounted price and free medicines were provided to the people living below poverty line. With the help of free Health Check Up camps, trust was built on AYUSH system of treatment, among the villagers.
In its endeavour to bring overall development in Herbal Sector, infrastructural projects is being proposed in order to provide basic platform for the standardization of Raw Herb, to process it to make extracts, to dehydrate it to preserve its natural aroma and color and hence to make it compatible in accordance with International Standards.
DEVELOPMENT OF HERBAL FARMER CLUSTER –
C G AYUSH HEALTH FOUDATION (SECTION 8 CO.)
IN COLLABORATION WITH KVIB
Further extending the objective of strengthening of herbal base in Chhattisgarh state RAHI actively worked with farmers and formed cluster of 208 farmers in Bilaspur and Baloda Bazar district for Herbal and Aromatic Cultivation.
RAHI is providing planting material to farmers along with proper training for sustainable farming. A team of experts monitor progress of cultivation from preparation of land to sowing of plants to its proper growth till successful harvesting. RAHI is also providing BUY-BACK arrangement of purchase of their produce by its value addition in common facility center developed in village Jhal, block Bilha, and district Bilaspur (C.G.).
C G AYUSH HEALTH FOUNDATION is manufacturing Herbal Tea, Essential Oil and Aloe Vera based products in common facility center and then marketing it to support farmers of surrounding villages.
